Wedge Returns In “Star Wars: Rise of Skywalker”

Veteran Scottish actor Denis Lawson will reportedly reprise his role of fan-favourie character Wedge Antilles in J.J. Abrams’ upcoming “Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker” at Disney Pictures and Lucasfilm.

Rebel Force Radio broke the news, saying they received a solid ‘Yes’ from a representative for the actor.

The now 71-year-old Lawson, who is also Ewan McGregor’s uncle, first appeared in the original 1977 “Star Wars” and continued the character through the trilogy. He’s a friend of Luke Skywalker and appeared heavily in the original Death Star attack sequence as ‘Red Two’.

Though hardly the first or last man to utter the phrase “look at the size of that thing,” he and Luke are the only two X-wing pilots to survive the assault. He also appears in “The Empire Strikes Back” in the ground assault on Hoth, and then co-leads the fighter attack on the second Death Star in “Return of the Jedi”.

In 2014, Lawson confirmed he was asked to appear in “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” but had to decline due to a scheduling conflict. No such problem this time out it seems.

“Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker” arrives December 20th.
