Pattinson: Batman Is Not A Superhero

One of the reasons Batman remains one of the most popular heroes of the comics canon is that he has no supernatural abilities – he’s just a man in a suit and with a bottomless supply of wealth to help build some very elaborate toys.

As a result, he doesn’t fit the classic definition of a superhero even as he’s often lumped together with the others who more easily are seen like that (eg. Superman, Wonder Woman). Robert Pattinson is taking on the role for Matt Reeves’ upcoming “The Batman” film and says he agrees that superpowers are a necessity to be a superhero:

“Batman’s not a superhero (laughs)… It’s weird, I always baulk at it. I’m like, ‘It doesn’t count, you need to have like magical powers to be a superhero.’”

In fact, that’s a big reason Pattinson was drawn to the character, recently he said Batman’s not a hero but rather “a complicated character” and he couldn’t play a real hero as there has to be “something a little bit wrong” with his characters.

Pattinson will begin shooting “The Batman” early in the new year.
